Signs of age and wear, a few small scratches. With frame (damaged, mitres loose). VERSO inscription to a landscape by Belot.

Joint creation of the French writer Raymond Hesse (1884-1967) and the artist Gabriel Belot (1882-1962), depicting a journey from Écouffes street to Rosiers street in Paris – the quarter of Jewish Eastern European immigrants: the food market, the school, a Jewish wedding, and other scenes. Ends with three woodcuts depicting Moses and the Exodus from Egypt, and a text relating to the return of Jews to Palestine. Copy no. 168 of a limited edition of 200 copies. Inscribed by Raymond Hesse on half-title page. [44] loose leaves ([24] text leaves and [20] woodcuts). Without cover and slipcase. 32.5 cm. Good condition. Minor stains and defects (primarily to margins and half-title page).

Amusantes lettres illustrées. 4 mai 1927, il remercie Cocotte blonde, « le premier professeur de dessin qui sache au moins m'indiquer l'art de faire des cheveux - c'est du reste un Art qui ne s'apprend pas, la vie se charge passablement de nous en faire, faire des cheveux »... 5 mars 1928, sous le dessin de deux coqs, nouvelles du succès de son exposition : « l'État m'achète un dessin pour le musée du Luxembourg »... 1er avril 1933, jolie lettre ornée d'un écureuil qui pèche un poisson rouge : « né tendre, je vois combien l'homme est seul mais, me voici en plus de ma tête à la Socrate que je m'exprime tout comme lui »... 22 mars, autoportrait, et regrets de ne pouvoir déjeuner avec lui à cause d'un rendez-vous chez Calmann Lévy... On joint un dessin à la plume dédicacé par Belot à Delahalle (portrait d'enfant) ; et une gravure dédicacée.
