A shaft of light shines from an opening in the sky and cherubs with flowers and banner "Gloria In Excelsis Deo". Signed lower left "Sr. Agnes Berchmans, 1923". Sister Agnes Berchmans, born Julia Alma Landry, entered the Sisters of Charity while a teenager. Her order, recognizing her talents, sent her to Italy to study with Filadelfo Simi. SIZE: 52-1/2" x 86". CONDITION: There is a 22" x 2" area bottom right with loss of paint, otherwise very good. 9-99329

      Large, unframed oil on canvas religious scene depicts Claudia Procula being consoled by an angel after her dream of suffering as she is descending a staircase from a bedroom lit by a floor oil lamp. Many figures are depicted in the scene including clergy, soldier and lay people. The heavens have opened and cast rays of light on a battle scene. The painting is after an engraving by Alphonse Francois (French, 1814-1888) titled "The Dream of Pilate's Wife". Signed lower left "S.R. Agnes Berchmans 1920". Sister Agnes Berchmans, born Julia Alma Landry, entered the Sisters of Charity while a teenager. Her order, recognizing her talents, sent her to Italy to study with Filadelfo Simi. SIZE: 54" x 67". In the foreground a woman is bowing at the floor and other are in exclamation. The shroud was taken out of a box which a young woman kneels with on the right side. Signed lower right "SR.
