Bhattacharjee graduated from the Indian College of Arts (Rabindra Bharati University) in Calcutta in 1969. During his career, he participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in India, Singapore, Dubai, Switzerland, Germany, Bangladesh and New York. He was also awarded the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS) Award in 1979, the State Lalit Kala Academy Award in 1978 and the Birla Academy of Art and Culture Award in 1977.
