    Gabriel Bien-Aime was born on May 1, 1951 in Croix des Bouquets. As an adolescent, he studied auto mechanics in Port-au-Prince, where he worked in a garage. At the age of 20 years, he entered the atelier of Janvier Louisjuste and began creating metal sculpture. Bien-Aime's work is notable for his uninhibited expression of humor, and his frequent use of the third dimension with parts of a sculpture extending toward the viewer. He has exhibited--and is collected--internationally. Size: 24 x 24 in.

    Gabriel Bien-Aimé (Haitian/Croix des Bouquets, b. 1951) RaRa Figure with Whistle, c. 1990's Sculpted cut recycled steel, 20" x 29" Encouraged to become an artist by fellow sculptor Janvier Louisjuste, Bien-Aimé has exhibited from Paris’ Centre Pompidou to the Milwaukee Art Museum. While Bien-Aimé works in the manner of Georges Liautaud who initiated this genre of art, and primarily uses the same materials, his recycled metal cut work and forged sculptures incorporate layering and accoutrement which add to the whimsy of his everyday life and Vodou inspired scenes.
