Die Wirkung entsteht aus der Balance von Kontrolle und Offenheit: Der sichtbare Arbeitsprozess - Schichtung, Reduktion, erneute Setzung - bleibt nachvollziehbar und verleiht der Oberfläche Spannung. Die zurückhaltende Farbigkeit lenkt den Blick auf die Organisation der Fläche und die feine Abstufung der Materialwerte. Gerade in dieser konzentrierten Verbindung von Struktur und Reduktion liegt die Qualität der Arbeit. Das Blatt zeigt exemplarisch Biondas Fähigkeit, aus begrenzten formalen Mitteln eine differenzierte, spannungsreiche Oberfläche zu entwickeln, bei der Struktur und Komposition eng aufeinander abgestimmt sind.

Provenienz: Privatsammlung Hessen Mario Bionda zählt zu den markantesten italienischen Malern der Nachkriegszeit, dessen Werk von einer konsequenten Entwicklung vom metaphysischen und post-futuristischen Einfluss hin zur abstrakten und informellen Malerei geprägt ist. Er erhielt seine entscheidende künstlerische Prägung von 1927 bis 1933 im privaten Atelier von Felice Casorati, einem der einflussreichsten Lehrer der piemontesischen Moderne. Bereits 1930 nahm er an der Biennale di Venezia teil und etablierte sich früh in der italienischen Kunstszene. Die Arbeit ist als horizontale, stark strukturierte Bildfläche angelegt. Ein heller, gebrochener Grundton wird von eingearbeiteten Linien, Ritzungen und pastosen Partien überzogen. Charakteristisch ist die ausgeprägte Materialität: Die Oberfläche wirkt geschichtet, partiell abgekratzt und wieder überarbeitet. Zeichnerische Setzungen stehen neben reliefartigen Verdichtungen der Farbe. Das Gemälde steht exemplarisch für die informelle Phase der späten 1950er Jahre, in der Bionda die Bildfläche als Experimentierfeld für Material und Spur begreift. Die reduzierte Farbigkeit und die betonte Tektonik verweisen auf ein Interesse an prozesshafter Bildentwicklung, das für diese Werkzeit kennzeichnend ist.
