DESCRIPTION: An antique Emilio Boggio (Venezuelan, 1857-1920) female portrait pencil drawing on paper. The paper includes an "Emile Boggio Succession" studio stamp on bottom left corner. This is a portrait of Mrs. Theresa Moulinier. The painting includes full description and date on verso. Emilio Boggio was an Italian Venezuelan pioneering impressionist painter who lived and worked much of his life in Paris. In 1878, he discovered 19th-century French painting at the Exposition Universelle in Paris and, two years later, he entered the Academie Julian, where he was the student of Jean-Paul Laurens. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Francais from 1887 until his death. He obtained an honourable mention in 1888, then a bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1889 and a silver medal in 1900. His first solo exhibition took place in 1912, while in 1910 the Salon des Artistes Francais dedicated an entire room to his work. CIRCA: 1906. DIMENSIONS: Frame is H: 22 3/4" W: 19". Paper is H: 13 3/4" W: 10". CONDITION: Antique condition. Drawing has artist pencil original stains. Frames has some missing parts. See lot description for details on item condition.
