              Late 19th / Early 20th century. Modeled and cast as three athletes, on a marble base. Signed 'A. Boucher', with foundry mark. Alfred Boucher (French, 1850-1934) Alfred Boucher was a French sculptor who was a mentor to Camille Claudel and a friend of Auguste Rodin. Born in Bouy-sur-Ovin, He was the son of a farmhand who became the gardener of sculptor Joseph-Marius Ramus, who, after recognizing Boucher’s talent, opened his studio to him. He won the Grand Prix dur Salon in 1881 with La Piete Filiale. He provided inspiration and encouragement to the next generation of sculptors such as Laure Coutan and Camille Claudel. He founded the studio La Ruche in Montparnasse in 1902 to help young artists. He received the Grand Prix de Sculpture de l’Exposition Universelle in 1900. He died in Aix-les-Bains at the age of 84.

              LA JEUNESSE, UM 1900 Höhe: 64,6 cm. Länge: 33 cm. Tiefe: 21,5 cm. An der rechten Schulter „A. Boucher“ signiert. Carrara-Marmor. Die Büste, um 1900 gefertigt, zeigt ein junges Mädchen, das den Blick gesenkt nach rechts hält. Ihre streng zurückgekämmten Haare, die zu einem kunstvollen Dutt am Hinterkopf geformt sind, lassen die weichen Formen ihres Gesichtes in volle Erscheinung treten. Jacques Piette sieht hier das berühmte Modell Volubilis als Vorbild. Auf rundem, gekehltem Sockel. Eine Version der Büste ist im Museum Camille Claudel in Nogent-sur-Seine (Inv.Nr. 993.003; Piette, op. cit., Nr. PB73-2) ausgestellt. Alfred Boucher lehrte unter anderem Camille Claudel, die er später mit Auguste Rodin in Kontakt brachte. Boucher konzentrierte sich vor allem auf Büsten und die Darstellung des menschlichen Körpers.
