Oil on canvas France, around 1900 Henri Brispot (1846-1928) – French painter Signed lower right ‘H. Brispot’ Rare depiction of a rural scenery Dimensions: 56.5 x 76 cm Good condition Paintings by Henri Brispot are characterized by lots of details and reach knockdowns up to €16,000 Object is regular taxed. 19% VAT is added to the purchase price for deliveries within the EU. Genre scenes play a central role in the oeuvre of the French painter Henri Brispot. He often depicted gallant or clerical societies within finely executed interiors or beautiful park landscapes. The present work however shows a rural scenery with a small dog barking at a cat, which is sitting up in a three, in the center. At first there seem to be no people around, but when following the direction of the dog’s view, there appears a slightly indicated face between the window bars of the house on the right. An unusual subject of the artist and therefore even more charming for the art enthusiast. The painting is in good condition considering its age. It is signed lower right ‘H. Brispot’. Beneath, there are traces of a primal eliminated old signature visible. A number of tiny pin holes are placed in the corners of the canvas. The wooden frame is in good condition with only light traces of age and use. The framed work measures 71 x 54 cm and the size of the stretcher is 56.5 x 76 cm. Henri Brispot (1846-1928) The artist Henri Brispot was born in Beauvais and became a student of Bonnat. He established as a genre painter and his works were often reproduced as prints. Until 1927, the artist regularly exhibited at the Paris Salon. He was honored with a number of medals, such as the silver medal of the world exhibition in 1889. Works by Brispot are successfully traded on the international art market. (cbo) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
