Christy Brown Sold at Auction Prices

b. 1932 - d. 1981

Born in Dublin in 1932, Christy Brown overcame cerebral palsy to become a renowned writer and painter who created all his works with his left foot, the only part of his body not paralyzed. Christy Brown's paintings range from abstract portraits to surreal landscapes and still life images. Although doctors told his mother that he would never live with his condition, she was determined to encourage him, and Christy Brown's artwork is a direct result of her teachings.

Christy Brown's paintings were highlighted in his autobiography and the Oscar-winning movie, My Left Foot. Many of his works were later destroyed by his wife, and of those remaining, many are in a collection owned by the Little Museum of Dublin and the National Library of Ireland; finding Christy Brown paintings for sale is a rarity for collectors.
