(1472291) (11) Felice Rizzo Brusasorzi, 1540 Verona – 1605 ibid., attributed TARQUIN AND LUCRETIA Oil on slate. 40 x 46 cm. The dramatic scene is based on a model by Titian (189 x 145 cm), probably created between 1568 and 1571, now held at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. The black of the slate provides the background of the scene, which is also shown in the vertical-format Titian painting, but here in a small horizontal format, extended to the right and reversed, which suggests an engraving was used as a template.

Following his father's death in 1567, Felice travelled to Florence. This journey would have a considerable influence on the artist's work. Upon returning to Verona, Felice had several pupils including Alessandro Turchi and Pasquale Ottino. The composition of the present lot is based on a painting of the same subject by Palma Giovane, recorded by a print dated 1594, by Aegidius Sadeler II (The Illustrated Bartsch, 72, No. 46). It is possible that Felice painted the present picture in 1596, when Sadeler journeyed to Verona. During the same year Felice painted an altarpiece of the same subject in the church of the Madonna di Campagna, Verona. Felice Brusasorzi o Brusasorci (Verona 1539 - 1605)

    Est: €2,000 - €3,000

Suoi allievi furono Alessandro Turchi detto l'Orbetto, Sante Creara, Pasquale Ottino, Marcantonio Bassetti. Felice Brusasorzi or Brusasorci (Verona 1539 - 1605) Flagellation Oil on canvas 122 x 98 cm Frame with notched decoration, lacquered wood and gold, Siena 17th century. The artwork is an exact match for the canvas of the same name now in the Museo di Castelvecchio in Verona, from the church of the Monastery of San Leonardo in Monte Donico.

Felice Brusasorzi or Brusasorci (Verona 1539 - 1605) attributed Saints Benedict and Francis in Adoration of the Virgin and Child Oil on slate 32 x 24 cm The composition, divided into two clear registers and calibrated symmetrically, the gestures of the saints and the swirling burst of the various angels, take us back to 16th-century Veronese Mannerism and in particular to the master Felice Brusasorzi or Brusasorci. Many parallels can be cited: for the Virgin and Child, the painting in the church of San Pietro in Carnario in Verona depicting Madonna and Child with SS. Lucia and Caterina, or Pala Giusti from the Sacristy of Sant'Anastasia; Saint Francis, on the other hand, is very similar to the central figure of the Capuchin Altarpiece in the church of the same name in Bolzano.

S. Oil paint on canvas depicting the Last Supper. Fragment attributed to Felice Brusasorzi (Verona 1542- Verona 1605 ). Cm 95x120. "The Brusasorzi family's workshop, was one of the most active in Verona. After sixty years of activity, it became a sort of academy, where many artists merged. Felice, son of the painter Domenico, was formed in this workshop which was the link between the Tosco-Roman and Venetian painting. He worked for all his life in Verona, except for a few trips to Florence in 1596, documented by Vasari. He was a member of the "Accademia Filarmonica" in Verona. His stylistic signature is found through some of his signed work. Substantially his works are inspired by his father's paintigs, in which mannerism is influenced by Tuscan and Mantuan painting, with Veronesians influences. The sacredness of the "Last Supper" scene is manifested by the psychological agitation of the characters. The stillness of the objects, placed on the table, contrast to the characters's gestures. The Venetian coloristic influence livens up the scene where the realistic naturalism, from Lombard influence, is mitigated and softened". ASOR Studio

Circle of Felice Rizzo, called Felice Brusasorci or Brusasorzi, b.Verona 1539/40-1605- Venus punishing Cupid, oil on slate, oval, Note: The overall treatment and handling of this painting can be compared closely to a similar oil on slate by the artist, titled "Lot And His Daughters" and stylistically to an example in the Boston museum "Dead Christ mourned by Angels", the strong mannerist figures and composition showing the influences after a short stay in Florence. Comparable treatment notably in the definition of the hair, faces and characterisation of the figures. As with most of the late 16th century Veronese artists Brusasorci worked on large commissions and small scale copper and slates for a distinguished private clientele. (LP)
