Sold at Auction: John (1945) Byrne

Scottish artist John Byrne graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1963. During the 80s, most of John Byrne's paintings were figural self-portraits. He was inspired by the works of Giotto, Picasso, and Magritte, which likely led to his need for a variety of styles in his artwork. He used a multitude of techniques that helped keep his work interesting but easily recognizable as his.

Later in his career, artist John Byrne designed vinyl record covers for Donovan and Gerry Rafferty, popular singers of that era. John Byrne's artwork also includes a contemporary portrait of actress Tilda Swinton, who he fathered twins with.
