Cain (lower right) drypoint engraving 39 x 56 cm The tomb of Ezekiel is in the small town of Al-Kifl, between Hilla (which is near the historical site of Babylon) and Najaf, on the east bank of the River Euphrates about 130 kilometres south of Baghdad. Charles Cain was an etcher and watercolour painter. During the First World War he served with the Border Regiment in India and Mesopotamia. Many of his etchings and engravings deal with subjects in Iraq, Iran and India. Much of his work was produced in the period between the two World Wars, and this picture was probably drawn in the 1920s.
