Inspired by the smooth, polished surface of a stone, the boomerang desk is often compared to sports cars of the period. It bears a bank of three drawers to the right and one file drawer to the left, each with circular cut-out handles. It is further enhanced by two conforming open storage compartments along the front. This rare, vibrant red desk is signed with a molded manufacturer's mark "Creation M. Calka Edition Leleu Deshays". There are two large stains, one circular, to the top and light to moderate scratches to writing surface. The desk measures 29 ¼" x 72" x 48" (height x width x depth). Maurice Calka (1921 Lodz, Poland - 1999 Paris, France) Maurice Calka was an award winning sculptor and designer. He achieved great reknown for his boomerang desk design of 1969. He was best known, however, as a sculptor and created many monumental works in his Paris studio. One of his best known sculptures, the Lion of Judah, was ordered by Emperor Haile Selassie, who chose the sculptor for his strong Modernist style."
