    Giovanni Battista Canevari (1789-1876) A YOUNG LADY REPUTEDLY OF THE POTTIMORE FAMILY RESTING HER HAND AGAINST HER FACE, WEARING A BLUE DRESS WITH A FUR STOLE Signed Canevari, Roma, dated '29, watercolour in an arched brass frame, with a shaped border surmounted with initials and coronet 11 x 9cm Born in Genoa he worked in Leghorn, Florence, Lucca and later in Turin, Roma and probably London. He joined the Imperial Guard in Florence and took part in the war against France. On his return to Italy he was patronised by many noble families and King Carlo.

(4in.) high Canevari worked in Leghorn (Livorno), where the present lot was painted, Luca, Turin, Rome and Florence. He was greatly influenced by English miniaturists and spent some time in England, exhibiting at the Royal Academy between 1848 and 1871.

(61 mm.) high, gilt-metal frame with glazed reverse NOTES Canevari is known to have worked in Genoa.
