Joaquin Capa (B 1941) Spanish, Signed & Numbered Print

    Est: $100 - $200

Joaquin Capa (B 1941) Spanish, Signed & Numbered Print. Signed in pencil bottom right. Numbered in pencil 37/75 bottom left. Titled "Reflejo Amarillo" in pencil bottom middle.  Overall: 32 1/8 X 23 7/8 in.  Sight: 30 X 21 1/2 in.  #2718 .  Joaquín Capa was born in 1941 in Santander, the capital city of the Cantabria region on Spain’s north coast. He attended the San Fernando Fine Art Academy in Madrid, where he studied philosophy, architecture and majored in Sociology of Art. As he began experimenting with oils and acrylics he devoted himself to crafting atmospheres in his works, introducing abstract and informal elements that give movement to his still lifes and landscapes. From 1972 to 1976 Capa lived in Paris, where he attended the famous Atelier 17 and was exposed to numerous other artists and styles from all over Europe. He studied new methods of engraving and stamping, especially the use of color. He spent almost a decade in India in the 1980s as a visiting professor at the University of Baroda. Returning to Spain, he continues to make new works and prints of his earlier pieces, many of which can be found in museums around the world like Cuenca Museum of Abstract Art, the New York Museum of Modern Art, and the Los Angeles County Museum.
