Rare complete original Sunday comic strip, conserved behind museum glass and includes a hardcopy cover of Lil' Abner Complete Dailies and Color Sunday Vol 1 book! Al (Alfred Gerald Caplin) Capp (1909 - 1979) "Plentiful Jones' Wife" Li'l Abner Sunday Comic Strip Art Dated 9-1-1935 (United Feature Syndicate, 1935) Ink Over Graphite on Board. In this strip Abner and Mammy Yokum hear some hollerin' and bellerin' in the distance coming from Mr. Plentiful Jones and his wife's home and go off to see what the noise is about. Accompanied by a companion-panel feature, Advice fo' Chillun, for which Capp invited ideas from the readership. The Sunday was created in ink over graphite on three sections of board with a combined image area of 28.5" x 20.75". Al Capp was a celebrity-cartoonist and creator of Lil Abner. The strip began in 1934, and the sardonic, pugnacious Capp masterminded it until its end in 1977. The comic chronicled the absurdities of daily life in the fictional Appalachian town of Dogpatch. The Li’l Abner strip was distinguished by the characters’ outrageously exaggerated hillbilly slang, featuring humorously phonetic spelling and turns of phrase such as “amoozin’ but confoozin’” and “natcherly.” Artist: Al Capp Title: Li'l Abner Sunday Comic Medium: Ink Over Graphite on Boa Circa/Year: 1935 Signature Type: Hand Signed Signature Location: Upper Center Site Measurement: 28.5in x 20.75in Keywords: Cartoon, illustration, comic; Ref: BD1657
