Biography

Realistic religious depictions, done on a grand scale, were the signature subject of artist Michelangelo Caravaggio. Using live models, he was able to replicate natural shadow on facial expressions. He was also especially detailed when rendering his subjects' tattered clothing for his religious paintings. So much focus was put on the figures in Michelangelo Caravaggio's paintings that the artist often used solid backgrounds to further highlight his main subject.

Though he influenced great painters such as Rembrandt and Velasquez, artist Michelangelo Caravaggio led a scandalous life. At one point, he was charged with murder and went on the run to avoid arrest. The price of Michelangelo Caravaggio paintings can be quite high for large-scale originals, but enthusiasts can buy affordably priced posters and prints of his work. Explore the depths of artistic faith by purchasing a miraculous religious painting online.
