    JOAN CARDELLÀ CRUSELLES (Valencia, 1900 - Barcelona, 1981). "Woman with child". Bronze, on marble base. Signed on the base. Size: 26 x 12 x 17 cm; 2 x 19 x 12 cm (base). A painter and sculptor, Joan Cardellà developed his career mainly in Barcelona, where he held individual exhibitions and took part in group exhibitions and official competitions. His participation in the Barcelona Salon of 1934 is particularly noteworthy, where two of his exhibited works, a torso and a marble bas-relief, were praised by the critics, who singled them out from the rest of the pieces on display. He also took part in several Spring Exhibitions and in the Fine Arts Exhibition held in Barcelona in 1923, as well as in the one organised by the Associació d'Art in the Galeries Layetanes in 1927, where he exhibited some small arches. In 1944 he took part in the National Fine Arts Competition. Among his individual exhibitions, the one held at the Grifé & Escoda gallery in the same city in 1977 is worth mentioning. In this work Cardellà presents us with a female figure of Noucentista heritage, characterised by the timeless and idealised sense of its forms, typically Mediterranean. It is made in bronze and finished with a dark, irregular patina that gives it a certain antique air, which reinforces its archaic appearance.
