His series of photographs is characterized by numerous very private snapshots. In the present work Carroll portraits actress Marilyn Monroe in a hotelroom: She’s holding a cigarette in front of her face while gazing directly at the beholder. The gelatin silver print shows the copyright stamp ‘CREDIT TO READ: © Jock CARROLL / Time Inc.’ on verso as well as a copyright stamp of the TIME LIFE Syndication and a stick-on label by ‘Agenzia Masi’, Milan. Image size: 24 x 16.7 cm Very good condition Jock Carroll's portfolio of Marilyn Monroe has been internationally renowned and was published in the book 'Falling For Marilyn: The Lost Niagara Collection.' in 1996 In 1952, Jock Carroll was commissioned to accompany Marilyn Monroe during the filming of 'Niagara' at the famous falls in Canada. His series of photographs is characterized by numerous very private snapshots comparable to the present work, depicting the yawning actress next to her film partner Joseph Cotton. The gelatin silver print shows the copyright stamp 'CREDIT TO READ: © Jock CARROLL / Time Inc.' on verso. It is also inscribed with black pen 'Actors Marilyn Monroe + Joseph Cotten sitting on bench in bus station during filming of "Niagara" at Niagara Falls; Canada'. The print is in very good condition considering its age; there is only a faint crease mark upper left. The image size is 24 x 16.7 cm and the size of the sheet is 25.5 x 21 cm. Jock Carroll (1919-1995) The Canadian photographer Jock Carroll started his career as a war correspondent and RCAF pilot. He then focused on writing and photo journalism for different media in Canada. Carroll was a member of different associations, including the Toronto Men's Press Club and the Author's League of America. He published 6 books and is still internationally renowned for his work. The print is in very good condition considering its age; the photo paper is only slightly creased in the corners, but the picture is not affected.
