Date: 1760 Description: Tale from Ovid's Metamorphoses: In the 12th book, Artemis transforms Iphigenia, Agamemnon's daughter, into a hind to save her from being sacrificed for the land of Greece by her father. Artemis, depicted in the centre in a rising cloud, has just taken the young Iphigenia with her into the divine sphere, while a hind, adorned and laid out for sacrifice, can be seen near a blazing fire. Sinking and mourning figures surround the scene and charge the depiction with drama. The sheet has discolored slightly due to its age and is lightly foxed in places. With traces of glue from an old mounting on the back. Small crease across the upper left corner of the sheet. Description: Scene in the interior of a salon with Clitandre, disguised as a doctor, courting Lucinde and taking her hand. To her right, her father Sganarelle, visibly pleased, places his hands on his large belly. Behind, behind a curtain, Lisette, the maid, peeks out, holding onto the drapery with her right hand. Illustration for 'L'Amour Medecin', in "Oeuvres de Molière (Paris, 1734). Signed below the illustration on the left and right: "Inv. et dessiné par F.
