In the early 1970s, Cemin moved to Europe to escape the Fascist political policies of his home country as well as to pursue his artistic studies. Cemin initially made a living in the United States through carpentry and by renovating lofts, before shifting his artistic practice to sculpture in 1983. Though he worked in awareness of conceptual art, Cemin developed a manner of working that blends craft with references to historical sculpture - using material such as bronze that have a long-established history within the realm of the Western art tradition.
