    Est: $500 - $700

Saint Clair Cemin (b. 1951) "Soul," 1987 Bronze Edition: 5/7 With incised signature, date, and number: Cemin / 1987 2.25" H x 8.5" W x 3.25" D Provenance: Corporate Collection, Los Angeles, CA Notes: Saint Clair Cemin is a Brazilian-born artist known for creating sculptures in a wide variety of styles and mediums. In the early 1970s, Cemin moved to Europe to escape the Fascist political policies of his home country as well as to pursue his artistic studies. After completing a three-year printmaking program at L'Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts, Cemin moved to New York in the early 1980s. Cemin initially made a living in the United States through carpentry and by renovating lofts, before shifting his artistic practice to sculpture in 1983. Though he worked in awareness of conceptual art, Cemin developed a manner of working that blends craft with references to historical sculpture—using materials such as bronze that have a long-established history within the realm of the Euro-American art tradition. Saint Clair Cemin's work is currently held by a number of prominent collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and the Eli Broad Family Foundation and Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.
