WILLIAM CHATTAWAY (BRITISH, 1927-2019), BRONZE RECLINING FEMALE NUDE signed 'Chattaway 67 6/10' and 'Susse Freres Paris' Catalogue note: William Chattaway was an English sculptor and draughtsman known for his artwork and sculptures. He emigrated to Paris in 1950, where he permanently settled and continued his career. His works have been exhibited extensively in France, the U.K., and the United States. He is regarded for his contributions to British Postwar and Contemporary art. Chattaway was heavily influenced by Swiss sculptor and painter Alberto Giacometti's 'Walking Man' and his experiments with human figures during the 1950s and 60s. Inspired by Giacometti's work, Chattaway experimented with the female form in many of his sculptures. His work is the collections of the Smithsonian Museum of Art, the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum in Coventry and the National Gallery of Australia.
