    Est: €1,500 - €2,500

Pair of two-handled vases and cover in white and golden ceramic. Ovoid body with median band highlighted by a branch shoot of laurel with berries and birds in a continuous frieze rendered in relief; handles with knotted branches; podded foot on a square base, lid decorated with a wreath with ivy leaves in relief centered by a pomegranate socket, approximately 75x52 (a vase with necks on the square base and cover restored). Mugello, Fornace San Lorenzo, circa 1906-1920 (?) Mark; numeral 5989 engraved both on the body of the vases and on each lid; gridiron mark above Chini&Co. Mugello on each cover and under the base of a jar. The vases reproduce the marble example preserved in the Gallery of Candelabra at the Pio Clementino Museum in Rome. In 1906 Galileo and Chino Chini founded a new factory in Borgo San Lorenzo, the "Fornaci di San Lorenzo" factory. Galileo was the artistic director and Chino the technical director. From 1906 to approximately 1919, a grate was used as a mark (symbol of the martyrdom of San Lorenzo) with a stylized lily and the writing "MUGELLO", all hand painted. After 1919, the grate was inscribed inside a circle and almost always affixed with a stamp or engraved. The sole name of "MUGELLO" is now replaced by the writing "CHINI e Co." and, sometimes, "Fornaci S. Lorenzo Borgo San Lorenzo Italia" is also added, especially if the piece was intended for export.
