Works from 1914 to 1976. Volume V, Edizioni San Marino 2023, p.298 tav.2196 “The “archaeologists” are perhaps the theme of greatest continuity, to which de Chirico tirelessly brings iconographic and formal updates: “It is an idea that came to me while looking at certain characters in Gothic sculptures that are on cathedrals and that when they are seated have a very majestic look because they have a large trunk and small legs, and since they never stand up you always have the impression that they are very majestic. That’s where I got the idea to make these characters with a very developed upper body and small legs… because that gives a sort of grandeur to the characters themselves”. If this reading may appear to be a partial simplification, since the “archaeological mannequins” were also born above all from the metaphysical climate (from the mannequins of the disturbing Muses, for example), that of the medieval statues is certainly an idea that was grafted into the course of the more classicist elaboration of the theme, re-establishing its meaning as more humanized creatures, daughters of Mnemosyne, in which emotions-concretions-autobiographical memories are framed and embedded. The amalgams of memories, ruins, archaeological elements that emerge from their busts are sometimes isolated in heraldic compositions, autonomous trophies that stand out at the center of the composition” (Fabio Benzi, Giorgio de Chirico. La Vita e l’Opera, La nave di Teseo, Milan 2019, pp. 326-329) . 50 x 60 cm. 1962.

Giorgio de Chirico, 1888 Volos – 1978 Rom

    Est: €3,000 - €5,000

MANN IN RÜSTUNG, 1965 Bleistiftzeichnung auf Papier. 12,5 x 7 cm. Rechts unten signiert „G. de Chirico“. Im Passepartout, hinter Glas in dekorativem Rahmen. Beigegeben eine Echtheitsbescheinigung von Prof. Nicolò Martinico, Vizepräsident Fondazione Giorgio e Isa de Chirico, 31. Mai 1982, in Kopie. (1441731) (18)
