Winston Leonard Spencer (Lord) Churchill Auction Price Results

Who is Winston Leonard Spencer (Lord) Churchill?
Best known as a politician, Sir Winston Churchill was a skilled painter and used his painting as a way to detach from his busy life of political obligations. Artist Winston Churchill painted approximately 500 paintings over the span of his painting career. Winston Churchill's paintings, which were invariably in oils, ranged in subject from soldiers at wartime to gardens and natural landscapes.

Since he was a writer and a politician, Winston Churchill's artwork was often exhibited or submitted under pseudonyms, as he felt it would ensure it was accepted on its own merit and not for his name alone. Artist Winston Churchill never did one-man exhibits or appeared at exhibitions in person as he didn’t paint for fame or money but for his own relaxation and pleasure. You can find work by other talented artists when you browse the remarkable paintings for sale online at Invaluable.

Description: Churchill (Winston Spencer)

Churchill (Winston Spencer)

Draft of the typed letter Churchill sent to Neville Chamberlain after his resignation from the Government in September 1940, reading "I have for some time past feared that would you would be forced to relinquish the struggle you have made to carry on in spite of physical stresses under the hard conditions of the times. I and all your colleagues have admired your unshaken nerve and persevering will. The help you have given me since you ceased to be my chief tided us through what may well prove to be the turning point of the war, You did all you could for peace; you did all you could for victory. If you now tell me you must fall out of the line, I cannot resist your claim. The loss of your services makes it necessary for us to reform our ranks, and fill the gap as best as we can. We have been associated, as our fathers were before us, in the ups and downs of politics, now together, now apart, but I look back upon this stern year of comradeship with feelings of the deepest respect and regard for you", two pages page, with corrections and additions in Churchill's hand, 4to, the first page affixed to a blue-lined page with handwritten caption dating the later 30 September 1940, the reverse of the page featuring the pencil text of a telegram sent by General Wavell to General Wilson after the Italian invasion of British Somaliland in August 1940.

Apparently, ambiguity arose on the question of how to define Paris: "The discussion arose out of the military situation, and I naturally had in my mind the great mass of houses and buildings of which Paris is composed, and not any arbitrary point in the city from which distances are measured.
