Fernand CIAN (1889-1954). Portrait de Louis XV enfant portant la plaque et le ruban de l’Ordre du Saint-Esprit. Terre cuite, signée au dos et antidatée, reposant sur un socle carré en marbre. Bon état, légers manques. H. 43 x L. 30 cm. Historique Sculpteur d'origine italienne naturalisé français, Fernand Cian se fit une spécialité de bustes d'enfants réalisés à la manière du XVIIIème siècle, rappelant notamment Pajou, mais il réalisa aussi quelques bustes de musiciens du XIXème siècle. ll exposa onze fois au Salon de Paris, sous son nom d'origine Ciancianaini entre 1907 et 1914, puis comme Cian jusqu'en 1928, obtenant une mention honorable en 1921. Les bustes étaient signés du nom de l'artiste d'origine, lorsqu'il s'agissait d'une réplique, ou bien de son propre nom lorsqu'il était le créateur d'une effigie. Les dates, lorsqu'elles sont présentes, correspondent toujours au XVIIIème siècle. Les oeuvres sont de très belle qualité, pouvant parfois entretenir une véritable illusion quant à leur ancienneté et n'ont rien de pastiches. On trouve d'ailleurs deux bustes de Cian dans les collections du Louvre (buste du duc de Lesdiguières enfant) et de la National Gallery de Washington. Provenance Collection Frédéric Decazes de Glücksbierg (1958-2018).
