Ganz in der Tradition der Schule von Barbizon hält Cicero hier die Natur unmittelbar und in einer subtilen, realistischen Wiedergabe fest. Zunächst Schüler seines Vaters Pierre Luc Charles Ciceri (1782-1868) konzentrierte er sich auf Anregung seines Onkels Jean-Baptiste Isabey (1767-1855) bald vollständig auf die Landschaftsmalerei. Beeinflusst durch die in seiner Pariser Nachbarschaft ansässigen Malerkollegen wie Théodore Rousseau, Jules Dupré, Narcisse Diaz, Johan Barthold Jongkind und Jean-François Millet zog es ihn für unmittelbare Studien in den Wald von Fontainebleau und ab 1851 stellte er regelmäßig im Salon aus. In den 1870er Jahren hellt sich seine Palette zusehends auf und die Aufmerksamkeit für atmosphärische Effekte und farbiges Licht zeugt vom wachsenden Einfluss des Impressionismus. Öl/Mahagonitafel. As an artist, he was mainly active as a landscape painter. Isabey and Ciceri shared a Parisian studio in Pigalle for some time, but in 1849 Ciceri settled in the village of La Marlotte on the edge of the forest of Fontainebleau. He exhibited paintings, gouaches and watercolour views - usually of the forest of Fontainebleau and the banks of the Seine and Marne rivers - at the Paris Salons from 1851 onwards. Along with ThÃ©odore GÃ©ricault and Richard Parkes Bonington, Ciceri provided illustrations for several volumes of Baron Taylorâs monumental series of Voyages pittoresques et romantiques dans lâancienne France, published between 1820 and 1875, and in particular for the volume devoted to Brittany, which appeared in 1845.
