Original gouache and print pair by Roland CLARK (American, 1874-1957): "A Straggler". Gouached etching on thick wove paper, 1939-1940. This is the mockup, gouached by the artist over a basic etched composition, which was then used to create the color plates to be published in an edition of 250 by "The Derrydale Press", New York, 1940. Annotated in pencil in the bottom of the sheet. Image size: 17 x 14 inches. Sheet size: 26 1/8 x 19 7/8 inches. We add an impression of the print, as it was issued, with letters (typographic text). Signed and numbered in pencil. Sheet size: 21 7/8 x 17 7/8 inches.

Roland H. Clark (1874 - 1957) Colored aquatint etching on paper, signed by artist bottom right in pencil and each indiviidually number. "A Straggler, Broadbill" numbered 110/250. "Taking off, Blue Wing Teal" numbered 179/250. Published by The Derrydale Press, who issued two Clark waterfowl etchings every year from 1937-1941. Roland Clark was born in New Rochelle, New York in 1874. He graduated from the William Kellogg School in New York City, then pursued his formal art training studying drawing and painting at the Art Students League. His sporting paintings and etchings soon brought him international acclaim and in 1938 he was asked to create the Federal Duck Stamp design.
