Notaker 538.5], Printed by E.B. for Nath. Brook at the Angel in Cornhill, 1658 bound with M[ontagu] (W[alter]) The Queens Closet Opened: Incomparable Secrets in Physick, Chyrurgery, Preserving, Candying, and Cookery, 2 parts in 1 (2nd part misbound before The Compleat Cook), fourth edition, lacking engraved portrait frontispiece and title, [Cagle 838; Oxford pp.26-27; Wing M98; cf. Bitting p.595], [Printed for Nathaniel Brooks at the Angel in Cornhill], 1658, a few 20th century ink ownership stamps (see below), occasional marginal chipping, some spotting or staining, mostly lightly browned throughout, 20th century morocco-backed marbled boards, spine in compartments and titled in gilt, upper joint split, but holding, large 12mo *** Rare edition of The Compleat Cook, which first appeared as part of the The Queen's Closet Opened, 1655, but as Oxford notes 'was sometimes published by itself'. It is quite often found defective. The second part of The Queens Closet is A Queens Delighgt [sic], 1658.  Provenance: Elizabeth David (bookplate to front free endpaper); Blanche Anding, Cordon Bleu chef and cookery writer (engraved bookplate to front pastedown); C.W.J. Francis, Hillingdon, Middlesex (ink stamps).

SPICE GIRLS, 2000 'In court' pastel pencil drawing on paper of Spice Girls Emma Bunton and Andrew Sutcliffe QC image 49 x 39cm, framed Tthe Spice Girls' attempt to sue the motorcycle manufacturer Aprilia backfired when high court judge, Mrs Justice Arden, threw out their claim and instead landed them with a bill for damages of up to £1m. The group had initially sued for £218,000 in unpaid royalties from the Italian firm, sponsors of their world tour in 1998, but Mrs Justice Arden dismissed that action and found in favour of a counter-claim by the company. *Artist's Resale Right may apply to this lot.
