    § Winifred Joan Gordon Bell (British, 1915-1975) Study of Corgis signed lower left 'W J Ophelia Gordon Bell' watercolour h:31 w:24 cm Other Notes: Winifred Joan Ophelia Gordon Bell (neé Billinge) studied animal painting with William Frank Calderon. She then took figure drawing with Edwin Noble and later held various teaching posts including visiting lecturer at Leamington School of Art. She took commissions for animal paintings and her clients included HM Queen Alexandra and Lady Moyra Cavendish. Her husband was F Lawrence Bell and their daughter was Ophelia Gordon Bell, wife of the artist William Heaton Cooper, RA (British, 1903-1995). Winifred Bell moved to Windermere in 1942 and was elected to the Lake Artists' Society, contributing over 80 animal pictures to their exhibitions over 20 years.
