Randy Cooper (American, b. 1942) "Shadow Sculpture" Wire Mesh Ssculpture 20th century , USA Authentic wire mesh "Shadow Sculpture" by the contemporary American artist Randy Cooper. Randy Cooper is a self-taught artist based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, famous for creating these life-sized, hand-formed figurative works. He works entirely with his hands and a few simple tools without utilizing molds. The "Shadow" Effect: He specifically terms his creations "Shadow Sculptures". When a single, direct point of light is shone through the dark woven metal mesh, it projects a soft, drawing-like shadow onto the wall behind it that often reveals even finer anatomical details than the sculpture itself. Cooper famously signs his works by carefully weaving his signature directly into the wire mesh. Signed along the lower hip.
