With certificate of authenticity from Heidi Weber, Zurich, dated 8 January 2011. With confirmation of authenticity from Naïma Jornod, dated 22 June 2026. The work will be included in the catalogue of works on paper currently in preparation. Provenienz / Provenance Privatsammlung Schweiz Private collection Switzerland Zustand / Condition Leicht gebräunt. Oben links mit Knick in der Ecke. Rückseitig mit Montierungsresten Slightly browned. Upper left with a crease in the corner. The present work illustrates the Modulor, the system of proportions developed by Le Corbusier between 1943 and 1950, which is based on the measurements of an upright human figure with a raised hand. The composition shows, on the left, two representations of the human Modulor in silhouette form and, on the right, a schematic grid that illustrates the mathematical proportions according to the Fibonacci sequence. A green, harmonious spiral runs through the figuration on the left side. The gouache employs clear areas of colour: the beige paper forms the background, while the black and green silhouettes and the red lines of the metric system create striking clarity. The superimposition of the right-hand figures with the schematic framework intensifies the spatial effect. The artistic engagement with the Modulor has been one of Le Corbusier’s fundamental lines of research since the 1940s and permeates his entire oeuvre. In this phase, the artist explored the possibility of making human proportions the measure of all things, thus integrating architecture, design, and the visual arts into a unified, harmonious system. The work documents the artistic mediation of a purely technical concept, with the repeated figuration of the Modulor underscoring its universal applicability. Randseitig mit leichten Verfärbungen und Flecken. Linker Rand mit restaurierten Einrissen. Rückseitig mit Montierungsresten. In sehr schöner Erhaltung Irregular margins. Margins with slight discolouration and stains. Left margin with restored tears. Verso with traces of old mounting. In this gouache, Le Corbusier presents a portrait composed of two contrasting perspectives: a profile view in grey and brown, and a frontal view with contours highlighted in white. The two halves of the face partially overlap and are surmounted by crossed hands, which dominate the vertical composition. The work is characterized by intense coloration, with luminous areas of green, pink, orange, and red underlying the geometrically strict lines of the facial features. The white outlining of the facial form creates a clear separation from the coloured background. This interest in pictorial duality is part of Le Corbusier’s artistic research of the late 1930s. The present gouache serves as a preparatory work for two related oil paintings on the theme "Mains croisées sur la tête" (1939-1940) and "Tête et mains croisées" (1939). Stylistically, the sheet documents Le Corbusier’s engagement with the portrait as an expression of psychological states and inner contradictions. The present still life is inspired by the painting "Nature morte Léonce Rosenberg 1ère Version" from 1921 (Jornod 23). Le Corbusier repeatedly revisited subjects at different times that he had already addressed earlier. This is also how the dating is to be understood: in 1921 he created a composition with this content for the first time, and in 1959 the present collage was created. Rückseitig Spuren alter Montierungen. In sehr guter Erhaltung The paper minimally yellowed, occasional creases. Verso with traces of old mounting. Jornod 395). From 1952 to 1965, numerous depictions of the "Taureau" can be found in the oeuvre of Le Corbusier, including around 20 paintings as well as drawings and prints. The editors of the catalogue raisonné even refer to the "Période dite des Taureaux". In these works, the artist takes up the powerful symbol of the bull and combines it with his characteristic, clearly reduced formal language. The motif exemplifies how Le Corbusier translates archaic motifs into a modern visual language. The present drawing is structured similarly to the painting "Taureau II" from 1953 (cf. Jornod 395). • "LE CORBUSIER"; CHARLES ÉDOUARD JEANNERET-GRIS (Switzerland, 1887 - France, 1965). LC1 chair.

    "LE CORBUSIER"; CHARLES ÉDOUARD JEANNERET-GRIS (Switzerland, 1887 - France, 1965). LC1 chair.

    Est: €1,800 - €2,000

"LE CORBUSIER"; CHARLES ÉDOUARD JEANNERET-GRIS (Switzerland, 1887 - France, 1965). LC1 chair. Chrome-plated metal structure and ponyhide upholstery. It shows marks of use and the passage of time. Measurements: 64 x 59 x 64 cm. The first design created by Le Corbusier, together with Jeanneret and Perriand, was the LC1 chair, presented in 1928. Le Corbusier, Jeanneret and Perriand sought to design furniture for all rooms of the house, and so they created pieces like the LC9, a very simple stool for the bathroom, with a fabric seat. Le Corbusier also created other types of furniture, such as tables and shelves. His designs are currently published by the Italian company Cassina, and are present in important collections such as the MoMA in New York or the Victoria & Albert in London. Architectural theorist, architect, designer and painter Swiss, naturalized French, Le Corbusier is considered one of the clearest exponents of the Modern Movement in architecture, and one of the most influential architects of the twentieth century. He developed a new architecture based on five points that would be key to the development of this discipline from then on: the free plan, the garden-terrace, the "pilotis", the longitudinal window and the free facade. Among his most outstanding architectural projects are the Swiss Pavilion of the Cité Universitaire de Paris, the Unité d'Habitation in Marseille and the chapel of Notre Dame du Aut. in Ronchamp. As a furniture designer, Le Corbusier made his first creations with Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, obtaining the definitive impulse in the Paris Decorative Arts Exhibition of 1925. Already his first chairs and armchairs were conceived in terms of comfort, and based on anthropometric studies that guarantee a total adaptability to the body. The first design that Le Corbusier created, together with Jeanneret and Perriand, was the LC1 chair, presented in 1928 and characterized by a height-adjustable backrest that allowed the user to choose the most comfortable posture. He would continue to work along these lines, and at the 1929 Salon d'Automne du Design he presented his LC4 chaise longue, a purist and radical design that has become a classic today. Equally well known are his LC2, LC3 and LC5 designs, one-, two- and three-seater sofas designed to revolutionize the mass production of modern furniture. We must also highlight the design of stools and dining chairs, such as the LC7, presented at the 1929 Salon d'Automne or the LC8. Le Corbusier, Jeanneret and Perriand sought to design furniture for all rooms of the house, and so they created pieces like the LC9, a stool for the bathroom, very simple, with fabric seat. Le Corbusier also created other types of furniture, such as tables and shelves. His designs are currently edited by the Italian company Cassina, and are present in important collections such as the MoMA in New York or the Victoria & Albert in London.

LE CORBUSIER (Switzerland, 1887 - France, 1965); PIERRE JEANNERET (Geneva, 1896-1967), CHARLOTTE PERRIAND for CASSINA. LC2 3-seater Sofa. Chrome-plated tubular steel frame, loose cushions new upholstered in cognac aniline leather. Marked Cassina, engraved with identification number. Designed in 1928. Produced by Cassina. Sofa base with minor signs of wear, pillows with new leather. Measurements: 68 x 180 x 70 cm. Seat height 49 cm. The LC2-2 three-seater sofa, designed by Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand for Cassina in 1929, continues the line of the LC2 armchairs and was described by its creators as a "basket of cushions". This piece emerged as a reinterpretation of traditional sofas and armchairs by inverting the relationship between structure and upholstery, leaving the structure visible and giving prominence to the cushions.
