    Guillaume CORNEILLE (1922-2010). Tilly au bord de ma mer 1947. Aquarelle et pastel sur papier, signée, titrée et datée en bas à gauche. Délivrée avec un certificat d'authenticité de la Fondation Guillaume CORNEILLE. Dimensions : 27.5 x 41 cm. Proche des couleurs de Contant Permeke, Guillaume CORNEILLE dessine un nu d'une grande modernité tout en faisant référence à l'histoire de l'art passée. A la sortie de la seconde guerre mondiale, Guillaume Corneille convainc Karel Appel de le suivre dans un périple belge sur plusieurs mois. Les deux peintres sont alors inséparables. Guillaume Corneille fait découvrir à Karel Appel plusieurs villes dont Bruxelles, Charleroi, et Liège. Ils fréquentent la Jeune peinture Belge, travaillent dans les ateliers de Louis van Lint et Marc Mendelson à Bruxelles, et vendent leurs premières toiles à Ernest van Zuylen, l'éminent directeur de la Boverie. L'été 1947 marque l'attraction chez les deux jeunes peintres pour les innovations du peintre flamand Constant Permeke. Guillaume Corneille réussit par ses contacts à organiser un rendez-vous à Gand entre Constant Permeke et Karel Appel qui n'hésite pas à déclarer qu'il est le plus grand peintre de son temps. Emporté par l'enthousiasme de Karel Appel, Corneille peint Tilly au bord de la mer, durant l'été 1947. La touche dense, le corps déformé, les rapports chromatiques et la puissance des bruns raconte l'émulation et l'évènement de cette rencontre avec la figure de proue de l'expressionnisme flamand. Tilly au bord de la mer est aujourd'hui l'un des uniques témoignages conservés à ce jour de cet épisode. Dix ans plus tard, Guillaume Corneille et Karel Appel furent accrochés non loin de Constant Permeke à l'Exposition Universelle de 1958, dans les "50 ans d'art moderne" du Palais International des Beaux Arts.     Hand-Signed, dated and numbered in pencil by the artist. Corneille – Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo (3 July 1922 – 5 September 2010), better known under his pseudonym Corneille. Corneille was born in Liège, Belgium, although his parents were Dutch and moved back to the Netherlands when he was 12. He studied art at the Academy of Art in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. He was one of the founders of the REFLEX movement in 1948 and in 1949 he was also one of the founders of the COBRA movement, which has had great influence on Scandinavian art. He was active within the group from the beginning, not only painting but also publishing poetry in the Cobra magazine. He was a cofounder of the Experimentele Groep in Holland. Corneille was inspired by the drawings of children, and believed in the importance of approaching children with art that connects with their experience. When he heard during a Cobra Museum visit in the nineties that there was an “Art Lending for Children” he talked with the founder Roby Bellemans and asked him to send more information to his home in Paris about this project. He decided to promote the initiative. He started with a support list and persuaded other artists such as Shinkichi Tajiri to sign.

    Hand-Signed, dated and numbered in pencil by the artist. Beautiful framed, glass and Passe Partout. Frame has a few small scratches Corneille – Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo (3 July 1922 – 5 September 2010), better known under his pseudonym Corneille. Corneille was born in Liège, Belgium, although his parents were Dutch and moved back to the Netherlands when he was 12. He studied art at the Academy of Art in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. He was one of the founders of the REFLEX movement in 1948 and in 1949 he was also one of the founders of the COBRA movement, which has had great influence on Scandinavian art. He was active within the group from the beginning, not only painting but also publishing poetry in the Cobra magazine. He was a cofounder of the Experimentele Groep in Holland. Corneille was inspired by the drawings of children, and believed in the importance of approaching children with art that connects with their experience. When he heard during a Cobra Museum visit in the nineties that there was an “Art Lending for Children” he talked with the founder Roby Bellemans and asked him to send more information to his home in Paris about this project. He decided to promote the initiative. He started with a support list and persuaded other artists such as Shinkichi Tajiri to sign.

Prachtvoller, kontrastreicher und farbintensiver, formatfüllender Druck. Cobra (Gruppe) Corneille (Guillaume Cornelis van Beverloo) Venus sens Dessus. 2002. Farblithographie auf Karton. 72,2 x 56 cm. In der Platte signiert und datiert sowie unter Passepartout montiert. - Verso leicht berieben und mit Bleistift bezeichnet. Insgesamt sehr gut. Prachtvoller, kontrastreicher und farbintensiver, formatfüllender Druck. Corneille war ein niederländischer Maler, Bildhauer und Dichter. Während seine Werke während seiner Mitgliedschaft in der Künstlergruppe CoBrA (148-1951) einen eher expressionistischen und schnellen Stil aufweisen, änderte sich dieser nach Verlassen der Gruppe zu einem eher ruhigen und klaren Stil. Seine späten Werke besitzen eine symbolische Bildsprache sowie einen lyrischen Ausdruck. In diese Zeit ist auch das hier vorliegende Werk einzuordnen. Venus sens Dessus. Colour lithograph on cardboard. Signed and dated in the plate and mounted under passepartout. - Slightly rubbed and inscribed in pencil verso. Very good overall. Splendid, high-contrast and colour-intensive, full-format print.
