Biography

Artist Eanger Irving Couse was a 19th century American figurative painter, born in 1866 in Michigan. As a painter, Eanger Irving Couse was intrigued by the culture of the Chippewa Indians. His artworks of this tribe became his most recognized, and many were featured on the calendars of the Santa Fe Railway Company.After studying at various prestigious Art schools in the U.S., artist Eanger Irving Couse emigrated to Paris in 1886 where he produced many paintings of the Normandy coastline. During his career, he has received numerous awards and honors. One of Eanger Irving Couse's figural paintings sale, Mending the War Bonnet, was auctioned at Sotheby's in London in 2017 and went for over $187,000.
