Guido Crepax - Conte Dracula, 1983

    Est: €3,500 - €5,000

pencil and ink on cardboard 36,5 x 51 cm Original comic art made by Crepax for page 116 of "Count Dracula," the adaptation of Bram Stoker's classic, first published in volume form by Milano Libri in 1987. Detaching himself from all the visual imagery of film, Crepax returns to his roots, studying, dismantling, and reconstructing the Irish writer's text. The result is a fascinating epistolary graphic novel with an almost 19th-century drawing style, with hatching inspired by the French artist Gustave Doré. Crepax brings out the erotic side underlying this late-19th-century work, reviving the underlying theme that has accompanied him throughout his career. Signed and dated.

Guido Crepax - Subconscious Valentina, 1978

    Est: €7,000 - €10,000

pencil and ink on cardboard 73 x 51 cm Original illustration made by Crepax titled "Subconscious Valentina", taken from the 1976 story of the same name by Valentina, used as a lithograph in 1978. These are the years in which Crepax begins to favor the psychoanalytic reading of his stories over the political one, purely dreamlike stories are born in which Valentina must juggle noir elements inserted in visionary contexts. In this splendid work we see Valentina on the couch of a psychoanalyst who is auscultating her dreams through a retro-futurist device, the Sandman is next to her with 3 owls at his side perched on the foot of the beautiful Valentina. Slight dents at the corners. Signed and dated on the front, stamped and titled on the back.

A journey into the madness of the Milanese subway, a vacation that ignites memories and reveals family secrets, two opportunities for Valentina to cross paths with the great comic book characters, in what is a long act of love by Guido Crepax towards the ninth art. The Milanese master takes refuge in fantasy, openly citing his loves and having fun reinterpreting with his style some milestones of comics in a series of single-page adventures following the style of the Sunday comic strips of American comics. In this splendid comic strip, Crepax's Valentina meets Hal Foster's Prince Valiant. Very rare. Signed and dated.
