Andrew "Andy" Dagosta (1923-2009). "California Lost Mines and Ghost Towns Early Spanish Missions" pictorial map, printed by Cooper Enterprises, Arizona, 1969. A vintage illustrated map of California by Andy Dagosta, dating to 1969, featuring ghost towns, lost mines, old mines, missions, military forts, historic western routes, topography, towns, and cities. A fan of cowboys and the Wild West, Dagosta loved watching his heroes - Gene Autry, Buck Jones, Hoot Gibson, Bob Steel, and Randolph Scott - in western movies. This map marries his love for the Wild West with his talent and skill as an artist and illustrator. Size of map: 22.5" L x 17.5" W (57.2 cm x 44.4 cm) Size of frame: 24.5" L x 19" W (62.2 cm x 48.3 cm)

American artist Andy Dagosta was best known for his western paintings and illustrations. As a child growing up in Omaha, Nebraska, he adored watching movies, particularly westerns. Following his service in the 12th Air Force during WWII, he moved to California and studied at the Hollywood Art Center. Upon completion of his program, he established an art studio in Pasadena. Dagosta would continue to have a passion for the American West and became a co-founder of The American Indian and Cowboy Artists.
