λ GEOFFREY DASHWOOD (BRITISH, 1947-) A LIMITED EDITION BRONZE MODEL OF A RABBIT CONTEMPORARY Bronze with greenish patina, signed to cast and numbered 11/12 22.5cm high, 24cm long overall Geoffrey Dashwood is perhaps best known for his sculptural work in bronze depicting birds. Hampshire born, he worked with the Forestry Commission in the New Forest before making a career for himself as an artist. Initially he worked in the manner of Moigniez and the 19th century animaliers before embracing purer, leaner lines adn shapes,. Abandoning the superfluities of details his work takes on a more tactile abstract approach- enlivened and enriched by a keen eye for patina and colour. His work outside the avian world is less common, but no less rewarding and displays his innate understanding not just of form but of animal behaviour.

GEOFFREY DASHWOOD (BRITISH, 1947) AAR: A LARGE BRONZE MODEL OF A PHOENIX the bird with head up, opening its wings, signed 'Dashwood 10/12', raised on a painted wood pedestal, with fluted cylindrical shaft over circular base, with square top, 75cm high, 145cm overall Please note: the printed catalogue describes this bronze as a Cormorant, however the sculptor has confirmed the title is 'Phoenix' and he made it in 1990. During the 1980's Geoffrey Dashwood began to eliminate ‘all superficial detail to attain refined forms with smooth surfaces, enhanced by the application of coloured and multi-coloured patinas’. He created his own distinctive style which is firmly established in the field of contemporary art and now internationally recognized. His works have been bought by HM The Queen , Lady Getty, The Koch Collection, the National Museum of Wildlife, Wyoming, Oxford University, Mrs Kerry Packer, The Rare Bird Club, London, Sascha M Rockefeller, and many other noted private and national collections.
