    Charles Harold Davis (American, 1856-1933) original master oil painting matted and framed on canvas sheet. was an American landscape painter and Tonalist master. He painted exquisite, sumptuous landscapes with both poise and sensitivity. Davis paintings are marked an otherworldly sense of light and air. Davis' later work featured more inventive handling of cloud forms, hillsides, and old pastures. Size: 24 X 18" Framed Condition: minor damage to frame.

    Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts 1856-1933 Sepia landscape depicting a heavily forested area. Davis studied at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts under Otto Grundman before studying at the Academie Julian with Jules Lefebvre and Gustave Boulanger. While in France, Davis lived close to Barbizon which was a big influence in his own landscape paintings. Davis exhibited regularly at the Doll and Richards Gallery in Boston, Mystic Art Association Gallery, Rhode Island School of Design, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, among many more.
