De Grineau was best known for his illustrations of motor sports and the sketches he produced of the combat of both World Wars. De Grineau started his career illustrating motor sports events for the automotive magazine The Motor, but began submitting his sketches to new agencies whilst serving in the First World War. During WWII De Grineau acted as a special correspondent for Illustrated London News, and later as an official government War Artist. De Grineau’s drawings serve as an impressive record of the society and events of early twentieth-century Britain, covering not only conflict but milestone occasions in the public consciousness, such as the Royal Wedding in 1947 and the 1953 Coronation. As works with such great historical significance, many of De Grineau’s drawings are held in the collection of the Imperial War Museum. Please refer to department for condition report
