OLIN A PARIS, designed by Jean Charles Delafosse (1739 -1784), the case with ram and lion mascarons under a crowning vase, the white enamelled dial with Roman hours and Arabic minute scale, pendulum with thread suspension, 81 x 42 cm. Jacques-Charles Olin, master clockmaker in Paris on 10 November 1776. J.C. Delafosse (1739 -1784), architect and ornamental draughtsman and engraver, had been an agrée of the Bordeaux Academy since 1781, where he had exhibited designs at the Salon. His main works are 4 large engraving series of decorative designs, including: "Nouvelle Iconologie Historique ou Attributs Hiéroglyphiques" (108 sheets), "Décorations, Sculptures, Orfèvreries et Ornements divers" (24 sheets), "Ameublement ". Smaller series include sketches and designs of all kinds for emblems, trophies, facades, portals, fireplaces, tombs, furniture, church utensils, pendulums, goldsmith models, etc., skilfully and lively drawn. Literature: H.L. Tardy, Dictionnaire des horlogers français, Paris 1974; p. 460 (biographical details). An almost identical cartel clock is illustrated in: P. Kjellberg, La pendule française du Moyen Age au XXe siècle, Paris 1997; p. 191 (fig. B). Another almost identical one and a design drawing by J.C. Delafosse are illustrated in: H. Ottomeyer / P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen - Die Bronzen des Spätbarock und Klassizismus, Munich 1986; I., p. 182 (fig. 3.8.4 for the cartel and 3.8.7 for the design drawing). Paris um 1780. -- Fünf hübsche Entwürfe nach Zeichnungen des französischen Architekten und Malers Jean-Charles Delafosse (1734-1789), der sich vor allem für seine Ornamentvorlagen und Erfindungen von Bauschmuck einen Namen gemacht hatte und der 1768 einen Ornamentsammlung "Nouvelle Iconologie Historique" herausgab, in der er seine Theorien des Kunstwollens im Stile Ludwigs XVI. und die Anfänge des Neoklassizismus formulierte. Dafür sind auch seine vorliegenden fünf Panele charakteristisch, die als Wandschmuck für Pilasterspiegel etwa in Ballsälen der französischen Schlösser Anwendung finden konnten. -- -- Sie zeigen - zusammengestellt als Musikstilleben - zahlreiche Instrumente wie Gambe, Tamburin, Klarinette, Flöte, Lauten, Trompete, Trommel, Triangel, Horn, Gitarre, Zimbel und vieles mehr, sogar eine Dudelsack wird dargestellt, stets arrangiert mit reichem floralen Füllwerk, Bändern, Rosen, Blättern, Flechtkörben und vielem mehr. Die Tafeln (Nummern 1-5) titeln: "La musique" (2), "Attributs d'un bal" (1) sowie "Attributs pastorales" (2). -- -- Stecher ist der "Ornemaniste", Graphiker, Radierer und Kupferstecher Jean-François Janinet (1752-1814), der die Vorlagen in feinster Crayontechnik umsetzte und in braun-rötlicher Umbra-Rötelfarbe drucken ließ. – Gelegentliche Gebrauchsspuren wie kleine Flecken, blasse Feuchtränder, wenige Knicke, ein Blatt unten über den Rand beschnitten (Darstellung vollständig), sonst in etwas unterschiedlichem Randbeschnitt meist recht breitrandig. JEAN-CHARLES DELAFOSSE (1734-1789) D’APRES L’histoire et la Mansuétude Gravure tirée du Huitième livre de la Nouvelle Iconologie Historique ou Attributs Hiéroglyphiques de Delafosse publié en 1768. Haut. 40 7 cm - Larg. 25 9 cm (petits accidents) Delafosse architecte et ornemaniste a beaucoup contribué par la publication de ses recueils à la formation du style Louis XVI et au premier style néo-classique. L'ouvrage constitue un répertoire ornemental pour les fontaines pyramides cheminées dessus de porte bordures médaillons trophées vases frises tombeaux pendules etc. La manière de Delafosse utilise la force symbolique de l'allégorie en utilisant un langage iconique souvent très fantasmatique.
