Artist Paul Detlefsen was born in Chicago at the turn of the 20th century. After studying at the Chicago Art Institute, he made the courageous trip to Hollywood, hoping to make it big in cartoons. He ended up having a long and successful career working in special effects as one of the early pioneers in this field. 

Artist Paul Detlefsen decided to move away from movies in the 1950s to pursue a career as a painter of images for calendars.
