Il suo linguaggio, elegante e accurato, unisce l?interesse per la ricostruzione storica con una sensibilità scenografica di gusto teatrale. Negli acquerelli, il segno fine e la trasparenza del colore si sposano a un tono narrativo che anticipa l?illustrazione moderna, mostrando una padronanza tecnica e una sensibilità quasi 'letteraria' per il racconto visivo. Formatasi alla scuola di Francesco Podesti e Francesco Coghetti, la sua arte risentirà fortemente dell?influsso di Mariano Fortuny, di cui riprese la raffinatezza luministica e l?interesse per i soggetti di costume. Nei suoi acquerelli, riuscì a tradurre la stessa cura minuziosa per il dettaglio e l?eleganza compositiva che caratterizzano i suoi dipinti a olio, unendo precisione calligrafica e gusto narrativo. Dal 1877 partecipò regolarmente al Salon di Parigi, dove riscosse grande successo con opere come La rissa (1878) e Una festa (1879). Born in Spoleto, Italy, in 1847, Detti studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome under the history painter Francesco Coghetti, whose academic training informed Detti’s strong compositional structure and command of detail. After early success in Italy, Detti settled in Paris in the 1870s, where he became associated with the Société des Artistes Français and exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon. Immersed in the vibrant milieu of Belle Époque art, he found his signature subject matter: refined courtship scenes, fêtes galantes, and leisurely encounters set against Rococo gardens and interiors, rendered with delicate color harmonies and exquisite finish. The Gift exemplifies Detti’s mastery of storytelling and period atmosphere. The artist portrays an intimate moment of gallantry - a young woman receiving a rose from her suitor - imbued with gentle sentiment and painterly grace. The soft interplay of satin, lace, and foliage demonstrates Detti’s ability to balance academic precision with romantic naturalism, transforming a scene of polite affection into a timeless evocation of elegance and charm. BIOGRAPHY: Cesare August Detti is a gifted genre painter, Cesare Detti established his reputation as a specialist in "costume pictures." These works were of subjects chosen mainly for their suitability for picturesque treatment; usually of by gone ages when dress played a distinctive part of rank in society.People held a fascination for earlier time, and artists, catering to that interest, attempted to capture their imagination. As Alfred Stevens, the Belgian painter remarked: "The public are attracted to costume subjects in the same way that they fall in love with the fancy-dress of a masked ball."The inclusion of dwarfs held a brief fascination for the viewing public in the 1860's. The success of a work by Ferdinand Roybet in the 1866 Paris Salon in being purchased by Napoleon's cousin, Princess Mathilda, inspired a number of imitators. This popularity may have also come with the success of the play "Rigolleto" by Verdi. Born in Spoleto, Italy, Detti was a student of Mariano Fortuny, an artist known internationally for his brilliant technique and bold colors. He also studied with Podestis, a painter of animals and historical subjects and for several years at the Academy of San Luca in Rome. In 1872 Detti participated in his first exhibitions in Rome and Naples and, after a successful acceptance at the Paris Salon of 1879, the artist moved to that city. There he was awarded medals in 1889 and 1900 at both Universal Expositions.Although he continued to exhibit throughout Europe and America, where his work brought high prices, he married and spent the remainder of his life in Paris. A familiar and popular figure, his face became well known among the boulevards, cafes, salons and studios.

BEAUTIFUL YOUNG LADIES WITH FLOWERS. This oil on canvas depicts two lovely young ladies posed with a large beautiful bouquet of flowers wearing an expression of contentment and happiness. The artist was student of Mariano Fortuny, an artist known for his technique and use of bold palette. In 1872, Detti had his first exhibitions in Naples and Rome, which were very well received. SIZE: 54" h x 30" w. Overall 74" x 50" w. CONDITION: generally excellent. The frame has a small chip (on left), otherwise great. (05-405/JJ). $10,000-20,000.

He studied there until 1866 and came under the influence of MariÃ Fortuny. Upon graduating, he began to travel extensively, spending several years in Naples and exhibiting there in 1872. He visited Paris in 1876 and met Adolphe Goupil, one of the leading art dealers of his time. Goupil agreed to exhibit his works, and also arranged to make them into engravings.
