Von erhöhtem Standpunkt Blick auf einen zugefrorenen See, auf dem zahlreiche Figuren zu sehen sind. Linksseitig am Ufer führt ein breiter Weg mit einem Wagen und Figuren an den Holzhäusern eines Dorfes vorbei, dessen Kirche im dunkleren Hintergrund zu erkennen ist. Die diesig gezeigte Landschaft mit Burg und Häusern an einem Ufer in typischer Stilistik des Frühwerks des Malers. Die Lokalisierung schwer feststellbar. Date: 1869 Description: In the necrology for Anton Doll, quoted by Max Gruber, which his friends published in 1888, they describe not only Doll's preference for the Munich architectural motifs for which the painter was known, but also his tendency "to stroll out of town with his portfolio of drawings [where] he would get 'village lots' and mills". Doll wandered through the northern and southern Alpine countries with an alert eye for memorable, sometimes primal scenes. This drawing also comes from such excursions. It shows the view through a village street near a rising mountain. In the centre, a large church, perhaps a monastery complex, rises from the village silhouette. Inspired by his father Georg (1873-1959), who had already collected a basic stock of drawings and engravings, mostly of religious content, Dr. Wilhelm Denzel began collecting himself in the 1920s. He was particularly passionate about landscapes of the Munich School and humorous drawings, primarily caricatures from around 1900 from the magazines "Simplicissimus", "Jugend" and "Fliegende Blätter". Denzel did not focus primarily on the well-known names when acquiring the sheets; unusual motifs and the quality of the drawings were always more important to him.
