Originalitel Blick auf eine felsige Küstenlandschaft mit dem Wrack eines gestrandeten Segelschiffs im warmen, golden glühendenden Licht der Mitternachtssonne. Douzette, der mit Vorliebe Mondschein- und Abendlandschaften malte, ging 1855 nach Berlin, wo er Schüler des bekannten Marine- und Landschaftsmalers Hermann Eschke wurde. Seit 1860 fuhr er regelmäßig an die Ostseeküste, nach Rügen und auf den Darß, um dort zu zeichnen und zu malen. 1878 reiste Douzette nach Paris, wo er die französische Pleinair-Malerei der Schule von Barbizon kennenlernte. 1895 wurde Douzette wieder ständig in Barth ansässig, 1896 ernannte man ihn zum Professor der Berliner Akademie der Künste. Louis Douzette, 1834 to 1924, an oil on cardboard painting depicting a River Landscape. Signed by the artist lower right. Housed in a wonderful frame adorned with repousse grapes and vines motifs. Note: Carl Ludwig Christoph Douzette, due to his night landscapes and moods also called Moonlight, was a French-born German painter. First apprenticeship as a house painter with his father, in 1852 moved to Barth, in 1856 as a freelance house painter in Berlin, from 1860 onward regular painting trips to the Baltic Sea. 1878 study trip to Paris and acquaintance with the Barbizon school in the forest of Fontainebleau, 1895 return to Barth, 1896 appointment as professor of the Berlin Academy, from 1910 honorary citizen of Barth. Label on shadowbox back for Kohn's Fine Art Rooms lists Douzette as the artist. Vereinzelt Farbverluste. - Lit.: Th.-B. IX, S. 523. Douzette lernte wie sein Vater zunächst das Malerhandwerk. Seit 1856 lebte er in Berlin. Um 1864 trat Douzette ins Atelier von H. Eschke ein. Sein erstes Bild mit einer Mondlandschaft entstand 1864. Seitdem war dieses Motiv in seinem Werk vorherrschend. Später wurde Douzette durch die Schule von Fontainebleau beeinflusst, danach durch das Studium der Niederländer. Er war seit 1864 fast alljährlich in den Berliner Akademieausstellungen, seit 1894 auf den "Großen Berliner Kunstausstellungen" vertreten.
