Dumont’ Dimensions: 82 x 65 cm Decorative gold frame: 105 x 87 cm Very good condition Provenance: Private collection, Switzerland Subjects from the rural life with animals were a favored theme of the Swiss painted, combined with a striking use of light and shadow Object is regular taxed. 19% VAT is added to the purchase price for deliveries within the EU. Condition: Overall very good condition, no findings under UV. The surface is minimally darkened. In the upper edge barely noticeable nail holes, otherwise overall of very good impression. The image dimensions are 82 x 65 cm, the framed dimensions 105 x 87 cm. Alfred Emil Paul Etienne Dumont (1828-1894) Alfred Dumont initially studied law in Geneva but then changed his mind and switched to painting, taking lessons with Jean Léonard Lugardon. This was followed by studies at the Düsseldorf Academy and a longer stay in Paris in the studio of Charles Gleyre. Numerous trips followed, including a world tour in 1892 after which he became seriously ill. Dumont regularly took part in French and Swiss exhibitions since 1867. His works are nowadays preserved in prestigious museum collections in Geneva, Basel and Bern. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
