Silkscreen in luminous paint on paper. Signed in felt-tip pen and typewritten work details on an accompanying artist's label. Typewritten work details on a gallery label, affixed to the reverse of each frame. With accompanying hanging instructions. Artist Proof aside from an edition of 3. „Eliasson began taking pictures in 1989, on an annual summer vacation in his native Iceland. During these trips, he would visit family and travel around the country by car or hike through it‘s highlands. By 1991-92 he realized that this casual activity of photographing while touring could evolve into something more conceptually coherent. Unlike his three-dimentional work, which is based on myriad sources and is thus more universal in character, his photographs are specifically about Iceland’s terrain, it‘s particular conditions, it‘s develpoment, and his interaction with it. ‚I am aware that Iceland is a very exotic place in many people’s minds, and I think the reason for this is that Iceland in fact is, and in particular was, very exotic. Seen from the overcultivated and overpopulated Western world, Iceland is one of the few European spots that has not yet been completely exploited and holds an extreme beauty in it‘s highlands and volcanic areas.‘ Indeed, Eliasson’s images of the country have a beauty that is often deceptive, for as we examine them more closely and in relation to one another, they speak to the same conceptual interest in temporality, perception, an spatiality that govern his sculpural practice. […] Time, distance, the journey toward something, and the view of a location from an non-Euclidean surface all come together in „The island series“ (1997), which is the work in which Eliasson introduced the idea of shifting scale and format within the grid. The top few rows of pictures are short and wide in appearance, emphasizing our great distance from the horizon. In succeding rows, the picture are progressively taller and squarer, as the islands evolve from being flatter and lying accross the ocean to being taller and appearing to grow out of it filling the picture frame and procceding into the foreground. The bottom row of pictures, in which the islands are quite tall, bring to mind Eliasson’s recurring interest in the condition of gravity, as the large rock formations give the illusion of floating on the surface of the water.“ (quoted from: Matthew Drutt, Olafur Eliasson. A Cultivated View, in: Idem (ed.), op. cit., pp. 11/13.)

    Est: -

Screen print on Sommerset 310g paper. Hand signed and numbered on the certificate. Numbered copy (281/384). Titled, dated and stamped by the artist on the back. Published by Circa Art, London. On the occasion of the exhibition of his public work Lifeworld on urban screens in London, New York, Berlin and Seoul published by CIRCA. This new series continues the artist's investigation into the phenomena of color. To create each screen print, Eliasson analyzed the light levels and color palettes present in Lifeworld, dematerializing the cityscapes where the works appear. According to the artist: "These circular pieces have no vanishing point or corner to rest the gaze. Lacking a center, the viewer is immersed in an exploration of blurred colors that gently blend into one another. Each print is achieved through the superposition of tiny dots from the CMYK spectrum, similar to how pixels on a screen create images." This special edition recalls Eliasson's extensive series of color experiment paintings, developed since 2009 to delve deeper into color theory and the light spectrum visible to the human eye.

This work is number 3 in an edition of 10 + 2ap.This work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.Provenance:neugerriemschneider, BerlinAcquired from the above in 2007An Icelandic-Danish artist of international renown, Olafur Eliasson is celebrated for his installations, from small sculptures to immersive public experiences such as The weather project, 2003 at the Tate Modern. He has won the Eugene McDermott Award in the Arts and the Praemium Imperiale; MoMA, ZKM, MCA, and MAM Paris have all exhibited his work. The Studio Olafur Eliasson has expanded over time and become a hub for conducting experiments, testing designs, and realising architectural projects. The artist's highly ambitious and influential practice has resulted in many prominent commissions, including the Mies van der Rohe award-winning Harpa concert hall and The New York City Waterfalls, 2008 . What unites Eliasson's diverse œuvre is his focus on spatiality and atmospheric effects. In part, Square sphere is a cerebral, paradoxical investigation into the geometric forms that so fascinated the Renaissance masters. It is also a rare and attractive centrepiece from an edition of ten with two artist's proofs, one that fragments and recomposes its environment, in line with Eliasson's investigations into the nature of perception.

Laser die-cut work.- Eliasson (Olafur) Your House, one of 225 copies, signed by the artist, New York, Library Council of the Museum of Modern Art, 2006.

    Est: £4,000 - £6,000

Laser die-cut work.- Eliasson (Olafur) Your House, one of 225 copies, signed by the artist, 908 pp. illustrated by Olafur Eliasson using computer-aided laser die-cuts, original cloth, oblong folio (292 x 450 x 115 mm.), New York, Library Council of the Museum of Modern Art, 2006. *** Conceived by Olafur Eliasson as part of the Contemporary Editions series at the Museum of Modern Art, this book is one of the more exciting new achievements in book making in the 21st century. The subject is Eliasson’s house in Denmark rendered in a vertical cross section through an elaborate laser die-cut process of each page. The format of the book allows Eliasson the space to fully realise his idea on a scale of 85:1, so that each leaf corresponds to 2.2 centimeters of the actual house. Eliasson summarises the experience of viewing this book thus, “Reading a book is both a physical and a mental activity. It is like walking through a house, following the layout of the rooms with your body and mind: the movement from one room to another, or from one part of the book to another, constitutes an experiential narrative that is physical and conscious at the same time." Born of Icelandic extraction in Copenhagen, in 1967, Olafur Eliasson lives and works in Copenhagen and Berlin. His work has been exhibited in many international venues, including Tate Modern, London (2003), and the Menil Collection, Houston (2004). The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art organised a major retrospective of his work in 2007, which travelled to The Museum of Modern Art, New York, and P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, New York, in 2008.
