    Two oils on panel by English artist Robinson Elliott. The first depicting a young boy holding a book and cupping his hand to his ear as a second boy writes in another room. Signed and dated 1866 in the lower right. The second painting depicts a young girl shielding a kitten and looking to a clothed monkey. Signed and dated 1867 in the lower right. Both framed under glass in giltwood and gesso frames.  Provenance: Collection of Bill and Diane MacDonald, Clinton Township, MI. The MacDonalds were the long time proprietors of Bill Macdonald Ford in St. Clair, MI. Dimensions: 2 PCS x H 9" W 7" Frame Size: H 19" W 16.50"

    Landscape with 2 young ladies and farm in background. Robinson Elliott (1814 - 1894) was active/lived in United Kingdom. Elliott is known for Painting. Oil on canvas. Circa 1840. Canvas: 15 x 23.5 in. Frame: 20 x 29 in. Condition: Very good overall viewing condition. Minor aging in paint. Under blacklight: touchup in clouds and the ground. Provenance: Purchased from London auction house in the 1980's and since has been hanging in the Jack and Peggy McDowell estate on the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta. Beautiful to view. So much to see in this painting!

    The Soldier's Child signed and dated 'R Elliott/1880' (lower right) and signed and indistinctly inscribed 'The...Child/'as you were'/Robinson Elliott/65 Gram...St/Newcastle on Tyne' (on the reverse) oil on board 8 7/8 x 63/4 in. (22.5 x 17.2 cm.) PROVENANCE with Christopher Wood, London, from whom acquired by the present owner in 1985. EXHIBITION Artists in the Nursery, 1988. NOTES Robinson Elliot was a native of Newcastle and exhibited several views of Northumberland at the Royal Academy, the British Institution and the Royal Society of British Artists. He was also particularly noted for his charming depictions of children. Here the small boy, dressed in a smock as was then usual, drills a toy soldier resplendent in the red uniform of the British army, equipped with a pith helmet to protect him against the tropical sun. The demands of Empire were never far from the minds of the Victorian public, and children were taught about their future responsibilities from an early age: toy soldiers formed a major component of every Victorian nursery.
