It was not until 1953 that he enrolled as a regular student having obtained his degree as a painter and sculptor in 1957. During this period he was elected General Secretary of the Society of students. In 1955 he began to exhibit in the garden of the Art Sullivan. He was elected to two terms as president of the Association of Painters (1963 to 1965). In 1965 Vincent Price included him in his collection, and in 1966 he was included in foreign exhibitions of Simpson Galleries next to Great Masters, such as Rembrandt, Picasso, and Chagall. The work of Jose Salazar exists in 45 countries.
