HENRI-THÉODORE FANTIN-LATOUR (Grenoble 1836–1904 Buré) Œillets. 1904. Oil on canvas. Signed lower left: Fantin. 24.5 × 30.5 cm. Certificate: Galerie Brame & Lorenceau, Paris, 5.11.2019. Provenance: - Gustave Tempelaere, Paris. - Private collection, The Netherlands. - Private collection, Spain. Literature: Madame Fantin-Latour: Catalogue de l'œuvre complet de Fantin-Latour, Paris 1911, p. 218, no. 2061. This work will be included in the catalogue raisonné by Brame & Lorenceau which is currently being prepared. From the 1860s onwards, Henri Fantin-Latour created numberous floral still lifes, among which the painting offered here is an outstanding example in several respects. Fantin-Latour shows us a flower arrangement of red and white carnations, many of which are already in full bloom. Other flowers are yet in their buds, about to reveal their beauty. The subtle drama thus created is further heightened by the painter's quick yet precise brushwork. The delicate colors of the flowers, which differ strikingly with the dark background of the picture, are effectively highlighted. "Œillets" was created in 1904 - shortly before the painter's death - and it illustrates the extent to which Fantin-Latour perfected flower painting throughout his artistic career. * The full tax is charged on this item marked * in the auction catalogue, i.e. VAT is charged on the sum of the bid price plus the surcharge for those items. The VAT will be refunded to Purchasers providing a validly stamped export declaration. ------------------------------------------------- HENRI-THÉODORE FANTIN-LATOUR (Grenoble 1836–1904 Buré) Œillets. 1904. Öl auf Leinwand. Unten links signiert: Fantin. 24,5 × 30,5 cm. Gutachten: Galerie Brame & Lorenceau, Paris, 5.11.2019. Provenienz: - Gustave Tempelaere, Paris. - Privatsammlung Niederlande. - Privatsammlung Spanien. Literatur: Madame Fantin-Latour: Catalogue de l'œuvre complet de Fantin-Latour, Paris 1911, S. 218, Nr. 2061.

Jean-Pierre Cuzin, 199
