        Donald Farnsworth: Counterpoint/Golden Gate

        Est: $300 - $500

Donald Farnsworth (American, b. 1952): Counterpoint/Golden Gate, 1991. Limited Edition Color Lithograph. A limited edition color lithograph on heavyweight rag paper titled Counterpoint/Golden Gate. Printed by Rick Dula, Donald Farnsworth, and Cheryl Devereaux at Magnolia Editions. This work depicts the towers of the Golden Gate Bridge, with one constructed and the other rendered as if it is still a blueprint with gold-foil detail in the lower segment of the print. The piece is signed by the artist in graphite to the lower right and is number 450 in an edition of 850. It is presented behind glass in a metal frame with a hanging wire to the verso. This print comes accompanied by a document from Magnolia Editions, Oakland, California. Farnsworth's own work often draws from his interest in the intersection of art and science. Early works on paper combined precise architectural renderings of classical Greek and Roman columns and archways with "the addition of unusual textures and designs" such as abstract patterns or fragments of antique Japanese script

Donald Farnsworth (1952) Robed Aphrodite Tapestry

        Est: $1,800 - $3,500

'Robed Aphrodite' signed limited edition tapestry by Donald Farnsworth 2003, Jacquard tapestry - measures 81 x 41 in. edition of 8. The Magnolia Tapestry Project" founded by Donald Farnsworth and John Nava produced very limited edition Tapestries using new and traditional methods (Included the Jacquard loom) with 28 artists. These woven editions undergo the same lengthy proofing process as a lithograph or an etching: a series of trial proofs are inspected by the artist, who works with Donald Farnsworth to correct colors and accent lights or darks until the final work fits their vision exactly. They are not a print on fabric but a matrix of thousands and thousands of colored threads; a kind of “print” created without press, plate, ink, or paper. The fact is that no printing goes into the creation of the tapestry editions.” They are not pigment on a ground; the ground is the image. Every color and detail is the result of the interaction of the colored threads which comprise the object itself, the vertical warp interlaced with the horizontal weft. Farnsworth's work can be seen in important public spaces such as his Ceramic tile installation at Ed Roberts Campus, Berkeley, 2011, Blue Deer Tapestries for Laguna Honda Hospital, 2009 Mixed media work for SFO Airport, 2008, Plus shows at Nevada Museum of Art, 2011, Sullivan Goss Gallery, 2006, San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, 2006
